Throughout my pregnancy I have been searching for foods that are healthy because there are so many "do's" and "don't" about what to eat.
I always start my morning with a glass of orange juice. I usually take my prenatal vitamin with it.
Why orange juice is good for you:It has vitamin C which helps fight off infections, repairs tissues, and helps with bone growth. It also protects cells from damage and helps your body absorb iron.
Pregnant women need 85mg a day and breastfeeding women need 120mg a day. An 8oz glass of OJ has about 124mg. It's also suggested to not take a Vitamin C supplement.
For Breakfast I usually have at least three of the foods listed below.
Toast with peanut butter
Greek yogurt
Healthy choice cheerios
Special K cereal
Banana or other fruit
Eggs
Eggs are important because it helps with the baby's brain development. I also read it helps give you more energy which is great for the first trimester.
Water- 64oz of pure water is what is recommended each day. I usually do not drink that much, but I try to get as close as I can.
Lunch- It's always a challenge for me because usually I am not home and I don't always pack something to take with me.
My doctor recommended I stay away from meats unless they are fresh from the deli and not more than three days old. She did say I can get subway, jimmy johns etc. I always get my meat toasted because I read that is suggested if you have meat.
I try to always eat fruit with my lunch. Strawberries have Vitamin C :)
Peanut butter and Jelly
Grilled Cheese
Chicken
Let's be honest- Lunch is usually my cheat meal.
Dinner- I usually always have Chicken and Rice and try to eat some veggies if I can choke them down.
Scott's on a diet and eats chicken and rice for dinner, so that really the only reason why I eat it.
I love crab legs and shrimp! I know you can't eat raw fish or anything while pregnant so I asked my doctor her opinion. She said as long as it is cooked that it is ok to eat. I ready online as long as it is cooked to 145 degree then it's ok. And you also want to make sure it is low in mercury before eating.
Things I snack on
Almonds
Pretzels
Smoothies
Grapes
String Cheese
What I don't eat
-Fast food
-Soda
-Alcohol (obviously)
-Coffee that is caffeinated
Here's a blog that I read which was very informative for me. Click here to read.
